April 1, 2020 Update:
As directed by Placer County Health officials and the State of California, physical worship services have been suspended until further notice. Please join CHRIST the KING and our "on demand" worship services at https://ctktahoe.net/ondemand.
March 19, 2020 Update:
It was fun last Sunday with "Drop In" church! We had folks continue to drop in over the course of the morning and we were able to practice physical distancing.
While we were hoping to continue this practice for a few weeks, executives for Placer County and California have officially ordered all public gatherings and non-essential travel to cease effective midnight tonight, March 19.
Physical worship at CHRIST the KING will be suspended through Palm Sunday, April 5.
I've linked the orders below. Placer County's expires on April 10, and the California Order is until further notice. We'll be watching closely to see when we may gather together in person again.
Over the next few days I'll be putting together a worship experience online that you'll be able to access on our website https://ctktahoe.net. Please look for an email on Saturday evening/Sunday morning.
We'll also be working with our care groups to make sure all of our members and friends are accounted for and doing OK. If you need anything or know of someone that does, please let me know and we'll support as we are able.
These are anxious times, though please know that God loves each one of you and will see us through this!
Let's pray:
Calm me, Lord, as you calmed the storm;
still me, Lord, keep me from harm.
Let all the tumult within me cease,
enfold me, Lord, in your peace.
Calm me, Lord, as you calmed the storm;
still me, Lord, keep me from harm.
Let all the tumult within me cease, Lord,
enfold me in your peace.
March 14 Update:
Good afternoon, friends,
You may have already heard about the school district cancelling school for the next three weeks. Things happened pretty quickly after lunch yesterday and as you know, the situation is evolving.
After speaking with Bishop Mark, and Dick Morton, our Council President, we've decided to modify church at CTK for the next few weeks and suspend all additional events through the end of March - possibly longer.
The following events are cancelled:
-TCNS Nursery School
-All Bible Studies
-Lent Studies (at LTUMC)
-End of Life workshop at Good Shepherd, Reno
For Sunday, we've organized "drop in" church. I'll be present in the CTK chapel from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 (or as long as people continue to drop in).
- Individuals or families who would like to recite prayers, light candles, listen to music, and individual communion (only Pr. Ed will be serving), will be able to do so on their own timing.
- Coffee and hot water will be available in the fellowship hall along with some food items.
- Drop-in church will continue through the end of March (15, 22, and 29), and we will reevaluate the situation the week of March 23.
- Please feel free to drop by as you are comfortable. Please stay home if you are sick or are concerned about being in a public place.
We feel that this option allows for smaller, staggered, visits to the church, while still keeping church open - even through the snow!
While folks are staying home more, please join in our Lenten study of The Way: Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus. While the in-person study has been cancelled, the video and study materials are posted on our website at:
https://ctktahoe.net/theway
I am always available by email or phone, and will still conduct home and hospital visits as needed. My cell phone number is listed below.
If you are able, look through the church directory and give a call to someone you haven't spoken to in a while - will be good to check in with our friends and church family!
In peace,
Pr. Ed+
